About Gary’s Program

When clients contact me asking for dog training or help with their dogs, it’s usually due to one of two things, or a combination of these two things.

1. New dog: the owner or family gets a puppy or dog and wants to learn how to train and communicate with their new companion.

2. Observable behavior problem: a puppy or dog is behaving in a negative or undesirable way. The unwanted behavior(s) motivate an owner to seek help. This type of training is known as behavior modification.

Based on each owners’ unique situation, I develop and walk each person through a customized dog or puppy training program that meets their needs. The private, one-on-one training program is conducted either at the owner’s home, or at specified parks for those who live outside my regular service area.

Specializing in Behavior Modification

I specialize in behavior modification training. There is not a problem or negative behavior that I cannot address and modify to make positive changes quickly. And more importantly, I will teach you the same skills, to modify your dog’s behaviors for the lifetime of your dog.

Specializing in Temperament Testing

Temperament testing is a method used to assess if a dog or puppy is the right match for you or your family. I test the temperament of a dog, or puppy, to see if there are any red flags. For example, dog or people aggression, resource guarding, fear or phobias, excessive barking, and separation anxiety, are all red flags.

Temperament testing assesses a dog or puppy, to understand the type of training or behavior modification program it may need.

Core Benefits

  1. I met with you and your dog or puppy once a week for 6 consecutive private training sessions.
  2. It takes 6 session to learn how to modify negative behaviors in a dog, and teach a dog to consistently demonstrative positive behaviors.
  3. I work with each owner using a structured step-by-step approach that ensures each newly learned skill builds on the next skill. Effective dog training requires one-on-one instruction and feedback.
  4. I explain why the behavior I am teaching is important and what the practical application is. Next, I demonstrate with the dog what I will be teaching the owner and then I give instant feedback while watching the owner complete the task.
  5. My program is more effective than group classes because it is customized to an owner’s unique situation and their dog’s personality, temperament, and other factors. Private one-on-one training provides substantial benefits over group classes, because the dog has the time it needs to learn a new skill. This turns negative behaviors into positive behaviors.
  6. A structured dog training program is an investment in an owner’s communication and relationship with his or her dog.
  7. I provide lifetime training support to all of my clients so they can contact me with questions or concerns anytime.

Does Gary Provide Public Group Training Classes?

Gary does not provide public group training classes because dogs get distracted and this prevents critical phases of learning and behavior modification. Group classes can also create undue stress on dogs and puppies, which leads to additional undesirable behaviors.
